The Chimney today with a wipe out victim on clean up
The Chimney today with a wipe out victim on clean up

First off all, it should be common knowledge that poaching the Chimney is uncool.  If you poach the Chimney, as someone did today, it can upset patrol and cause them to keep it closed when they may have opened it.  I’ve seen the Chimney poached in the past and patrol reacted by keeping it closed for a few days.  Today, patrol was just about to open the Chimney when a kid poached it.  He lost his pass for the rest of the season.  Patrol was über cool today and still opened it for the rest of us despite the poacher.

Unofficial would like to extend a HUGE THANK YOU to Patrol for all their hard work this season.

Virgin Chimney this am with perfect patrol tracks

Patrol got the Chimney opened after about one run.  It was like old time Squaw where you can get in a warm up run before you jump into the scary stuff.

Center Line, Easy Street, Chimney Sweep, and a big Easy Street variation were skied.  3 snowboarders even gave the Chimney a go today.  None of them quite pulled it off, but we give you big props as that has got to be freaky on a board.

We got some good video and we’ll get it to you soon.

Large migrations to the Palisades today

A special shout out to Nick Russell for skiing the Tube on the Palisades today at 10 years old.  The tube doesn’t usually have an air out, but it did today.  It was very Chimney-esce, especially for a 10 year old.  Props Nick.

THE CHIMNEY CONDITIONS TODAY:

– Perfect wind buffed conditions

– Smooth run-out

– Great snow

– Many takers

The Chimney after closing. Some big divots on the right

LINES SKIED:

– Center Line

– Easy Street

– Chimney Sweep

– a big Easy Street variation

Granite Chief Peak was sweet today

WIPE OUTS:

– 6 wipe outs

– 3 where skis were lost

– 1 unfortunately ended in an injury (we hope it’s not too bad and that he recovers quickly)

Worship and Revere Squaw Tree

Granite Chief Peak was skiing well and Granite, in general, was good.  Silverado still had that dust on frozen chicken heads for quite a bit of it.  North Bowl on Headwall is skiing well this afternoon.  The skiing is still good out there right now.
