Ohhh it was deep today. The recorded voice (I think he said his name was nate) on the other end of the phone this morning said that 33 cm had fallen overnight and 58 cm had accumulated in the past 24 hours. This made getting out of bed easy and once at the mountain I saw that it was another case of lots-o-snow for the few people who made it out.
This time however, the snow report seemed correct and it certainly wasn’t for the lack of new snow that people didn’t come to Whistler in droves today. Maybe everyone’s sick days are used up? Maybe spring break is over? Maybe skiing super deep pow just isn’t that cool anymore? Whatever the reason, the snow today was truly bottomless and there were no crowds.
The freezing level rose more than expected today and the lower elevation snow got pretty heavy. Patches of blue sky could be seen randomly throughout the day, but the wind blew consistently at the Peak2Peak station and above, while it never really stormed anywhere else.
On the downside (or upside if you are making your way here) though, the alpine did not open today and the Peak2Peak wasn’t running until fairly late. Garbo Laps, International Trees, VD’s, and a few unmentionables was the routine today. I would bet that Blackcomb had no shortage of deep fun powder as well.

Continue and the freezing level will drop. Already by 3:30pm today the totals had been updated to 40 cm in 24 hours and 77 cm in the past 48 hours.
