Brief Conditions Report | Squaw Valley | Damp… but Getting Colder

wet squaw

Waking up to rain this morning was not what anybody hoped for, but it was expected. The snow that fell last night is melting out pretty quickly at the base of the valley, but it has stayed colder up on top of the mountain and the temperatures will fall substantially by Saturday morning. Tomorrow should look much better.

Certainly rain at the bottom, but it was uhm, trying to snain at the top of Red Dog today.

It was clear that a few inches fell at the base and at the top of Red Dog last night, but the warm wet day today is melting out the lower elevations and compressing the snow up higher. There were a few patches on the slopes where you could see even the man made base melting down and exposing some twigs. At least conditions weren’t icy… And the colder storms are on their way.
