Lindsey Vonn won the Giant Slalom in Cortina, Italy today by a the large margin of 0.61 seconds.
“Cortina has always been a special place for me. I had my first World Cup podium here and I like the hill and the snow is always perfect — really dry, dense snow that’s really similar to the snow in Colorado where I grew up skiing.” – Lindsey Vonn
This victory was Lindsey’s 47th on the World Cup putting her in sole possession of 3rd place on the all-time World Cup victory list. She just past the legendary austrian Renate Goetschl who retired with 46 victories. Number one on the all-time list is Annemarie Moser-Proell of Austria with 62 wins. Number two is Verni Schneider of Switzerland with 55 wins.
Lindsey is now tied with Renate Goestschl tied for the most super-G wins all-time at 17. Lindsey has a 291-point led over Tina Maze in teh overall standings.
This was also Lindsey’s 6th carrer win in Cortina putting her within 4 wins for victories at a single resort that is held by Goetschl and was established in Cortina.

One other interesting note from todays race was Tina Maze of Slovenia (who got 3rd in super g) got down into her sports bra with a message on it for the press:
