Salt Lake City
SLC air not too bad today

Today was another Groundhogs Day today at Snowbird as rocks continue to outnumber powder stashed 201,230 to um…zero. There is one huge improvement to the mountain. The wonderful ski patrol has put in a sweet mat/rug thing in the Rat’s Nest that allows slightly less rocky access to Great Scott. If you want to ski some smooth fast chalk this is the way to do it.

The Mat

Yes, Mineral Basin will likely open tomorrow. The snow back there looks really wind hammered, but it will be good to have some more terrain for the weekend. Maybe there will be some pockets of goodness back there?

Rock skiing anyone?

The Island at the bottom of Great Scott has a couple of kickers on it so that you can get yourself up in the air if you like. The snow is Silverfox is pretty good too, except for the rocky spots near the top and the nasty big moguls near the bottom. The Rock Chute exit is a pretty fun little strait line now too. Overall the skiing is not great, but it is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
