I know, I know, I’m gonna miss it too… Waking up early in the morning to the sound of snow guns roaring in the distance… going back to sleep… not shoveling the driveway… working fewer hours… waxing the old carving boards… tuning… But I guess it had to come to an end sometime. Based on the forecast, it looks like MLK weekend may be the last chance for lots of folks to lay down some screamers on the rare 100% all man made, synthetic snowpack that we have right now.

Made in the USA

Conditions today were actually pretty good. The snow had good texture. No slushy or squeaky stickiness. Virtually no pebbles. No real ice patches. Good edge hold. Not bad at all.

Early AM Resort Side

It’s no powder day but it still beats hitting refresh every five minutes staring at the weather page, waiting for it to change (which it looks like it finally will do).

Even with the optimistic forecast the resort is continuing to pump out the man made snow in preparation for the holiday. They are blowing snow on the Dog Leg and on the Mountain Run. I’m guessing they’ll have Far East spinning over the weekend and if they don’t open the mountain run on Saturday, they’ll at least be able to open it up as soon as we get a little bit of a gift from Mother Nature later next week.

Maybe the change in the forecast has me in a better all around mood but today Red Dog Face was a blast. It’s wide enough and steep enough to really open it up and lay over on some super G turns. I can’t think of any other runs open in Tahoe right now with that much room.

Stop watching the pot boil. Make some turns. If we’re lucky the carving days are almost numbered.
