Jay Sanavage drops in on the Truckee River

During this past year of photographing people doing extraordinary and sometimes ridiculously stupid shit I have had the pleasure of meeting dozens of amazing people in our community. From skiing rowdy lines, to dropping 80 footers to maybe just dropping your pants and streaking, the Line of the Week has kept me fully entertained week to week. I would like to thank all my readers and everyone who voted. I would also like to thank all the great companies who have been a part of almost all of my shoots: Patagonia, Osprey, Sanuk, and Big Agnes.

The results are in and the winner of the fan vote for Best Line of 2011 is Jay Sanavage’s attempt at skiing across the Truckee River. This attempt may have been the funniest thing I have ever witnessed. It’s not easy to watch your friend fight for his life in freezing water, but once I knew Jay was safe nothing can top a guy in a pink bathrobe eating shit into a frigid river. Jay was at this shoot to help with safety for Rylan Cordova, who was going to send the line. After a couple attempts Rylan came to the conclusion that this was just plain ridiculous and dangerous. That’s when Jay dropped one of the best quotes of 2011. “There are so many ripping skiers in Tahoe this is my one chance to show them up and be the man. I’m going to ski the Truckee River.”

Jay squashed his opponents with a whopping 44% of the entire vote (of almost 3000 people) which means that either the people have spoken or that maybe everyone else just doesn’t have any friends. Either way, congratulations! Jay will be busy signing pink bathrobes and hooking up with beautiful ladies for the next couple weeks. At this point Jay is more popular then the majority of the Republican candidates for president!

Stay tuned for a 2012 filled with spectacular lines, wild antics and general mayhem from Ryan Salm Photography and the Line of the Week !! Let it snow !!
