There has been a lot of talk about Lindsey Vonn and Ted Ligety killing it on the recent World Cup. However, there has not been much talk about Mikaela Shiffrin’s recent success. Mikaela had her first scoring finish in 2 World Cup Slaloms. It took current US Ski Team queen bee Vonn 17 races to accomplish that feat. Ahead of the curve? Yes and it is her rookie World cup Season. Shiffrin grew up skiing in Vail, Colorado before moving to Burke Mountain Academy in Vermont where she became the youngest US skier ever to win a National Title. After last springs WC debut and national championship she has vaulted herself to a contender on the World Cup SL scene with an 8th in Aspen.
Shiffrin’s Mom Eileen, who was an elite High School racer in western Massachusetts, is one of the few moms that the ski team is willing to work with. You can be sure that Mikaela and her Mom have been watching video of the recent North American races in preparation for the European season. This family wants to succeed. It seems like with their work ethic they will.
