Skining Alta

Getting out for some pre-season hiking at Alta is an early season ritual for many in the Wasatch. It seems like the number of skiers who get out and hike for turns before the lifts are running has increase by about 20 times over the last couple year. I am glad to see more people getting after it, but it means you have to get up earlier if you want to get the fresh goods.

Mt. Superior

Seeing the sunrise on Mt. Superior is one of the many bonuses of getting up to Alta for an early morning pre-season hike. Turning around to take it all in gives you an excuse to stop every once in a while on the skin up.

Skining Alta

The snow guns were blowing and probably still are. It is always nice to get a face full of man made snow when you are hiking your ass off. Oh well, it is always worth it.

The payoff! The powder was light and fluffy and filled with rocks. As long as you made the right choice on line and where to place your turns things worked out just fine.
