squaw valley memorial day 2011

Squaw gets a big tip of the cap today.  They let us hike The Funnel, all of Granite including Granite Chief Peak, and even The Palisades.

Granite was still straight up pow. Well, it was a bit sun effected, but it was still pow and it was a blast to ski.  A bit of a hike from the top of Shirley, but well worth it.  The Funnel was buttery as well.  The Palisades were pretty beat up by the time I got there, but I bet they were smooth when they first opened.

People were fired up today.  We were all pretty satisfied from yesterday’s face-shot-fest and the hiking and skiing today really put the cherry on top.

So, now that Squaw is closed, what to we do?  We ski. It’s gonna snow all week here and the backcountry is going to be cooked powder bliss for the next couple weeks.  Then spring should FINALLY come in June and the corn cycle, even in Tahoe, is going to be all time.  I don’t even wanna think about the East Side.  The snow likely won’t get sun cupped down there until August.  It’s going to be one helluva skiing spring in the Sierra this year. Our boy Backcountry Brennan will be covering it all for ya here on Unofficial.
