This is a sea otter having a spaz attack.
I passed the final test towards becoming a full blown Esquimaux today. I snuck up on this sea otter and scared the crap out of him! He was only about 1 foot from my boat when he heard me say “hey guy”. If I was an Esquimaux, in a kayak, with a harpoon, he’d a been dinner and a new pair of boots.
After ‘almost’ catching that sea otter, it was hugely satisfying to catch this sun star. 15 arms and gorgeous.
I saw a coyote running for miles along the beach today. He looked hungry. I guess coyotes always do.
I took out a kayak for a couple hours today and had a damn near religious experience. There’s nothing like being out on a calm body of water that is full of wildlife and wonder.
In just a 2 hours on the water today I saw:
7 sea otters
20 bright colored sea birds of every color and type
3 large herons
2 bald eagles
1 sun star
1 coyote
