At the new Donner quarterpipe, Kidwell lands the first-ever documented McTwist, inspiringTom Sims of Sims Snowboards to construct the world’s original snowboarding halfpipe. Further captivated by Terry’s riding, Sims redesigns his line of boards to suit Kidwell’s form, inadvertently birthing the freestyle board. Atop this new model, Terry reigns as king of the World Halfpipe Championships for a number of years. His domination finally wanes in the early 90’s, but not before laying the foundation for what is now recognized as an Olympic sport.
