A male skier died at South Lake Tahoe’s Heavenly Resort last Wednesday after he fell in an unmarked area near the Poma Trail. The Reno Gazette Journal described the particular spot as “icy” at the time of the accident.
The deceased man was 49 at the time of his death and is reported to have perished from a traumatic brain injury. It appears as though he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

A woman came across the man and attempted to assist him but lost her footing and sustained a leg injury in the process. Rescue personnel performed a “low angle rescue” to extract the woman.
Vice president and COO at Heavenly, Mike Goar offered his condolences saying, “Heavenly Mountain Resort, Heavenly Ski Patrol, and the entire Vail Resorts family extend our deepest sympathy and support to our guest’s family and friends.”Â
