With a season snowfall total of 461″ and a base depth of 146″, it’s safe to say that Mt. Hood is enjoying a healthy winter snowpack. This image, taken last week by Timberline lodge, shows the Palmer chairlift nearly completely buried in snow. One caveat, the Palmer Chairlift does not run during the winter months due to extreme snowfalls, high winds, and all-around sporty weather conditions. For more on why the Palmer chairlift is not open in the winter, read this article by Timberline lodge – WHY ISN’T PALMER CHAIRLIFT OPEN IN THE WINTER?

Factoid: Mount Hood, called Wy’east by the Multnomah tribe, is a potentially active stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Arc of northern Oregon.
