The Sandy/Cottonwood Heights area is a veritable desert when it comes to watering holes. They’re just aren’t any bars in the suburb located between downtown Salt Lake City and Little Cottonwood Canyon, except for the oasis that was the Canyon Inn.

However, the paperwork has been filed and the Canyon Inn is now closed after pouring its final farewell drinks over the past weekend. The bar, better know as the ‘CI’ or ‘Cougar Inn’ was a favorite of Little Cottonwood Canyon ski bums, who on their way back home to Cottonwood Heights or Sandy, would stop in for a drink or maybe 7. Often recounted as a place where young buck skiers and riders could find a night’s worth of comfort with an experienced cougar, the ‘CI’ was a place of ski bum legend and celebration.

That said, owner Jim Stojack says he was forced to sell his property after police officials harassed patrons who frequented the bar. Needless to say it’s a sad day for Stojack who told Fox News 13, “I met my wife here. My kids have grown up here, and they have taken this all away.” Stojack claims that this all started a few years back, when a developer representing the Canyon Center development allegedly told his wife, “you better have your husband reconsider, or we’ll let Cottonwood Heights do the dirty work.”

John Park on the other hand, who serves as the Cottonwood Heights City Manager says those accusations are unfounded and that Stojack lacks the hard evidence necessary to support such claims.

Stojack just sold the property to his neighbor, The Lift House Ski Shop, who have plans to transform the location into another ski shop.
