David Sommerstein of North Country Public Radio brings us this look at how some small ski hills in the Adirondacks and New England have managed to hold on. 

All the snow in the Northeast is making travel tough, but skiers are excited. The region used to be dotted with small mom and pop ski hills. A far cry from modern resorts, these were the places where families could learn to ski for cheap.

According to the New England Lost Ski Area Project, more than 700 of those neighborhood slopes have disappeared. But some are still hanging on.
