It is being reported that nearly two dozen people were injured on Friday morning when a gondola lift came to an abrupt stop at Mont-Sainte-Anne, Canada. The incident occurred just before 10:00 am at the ski resort near Quebec City.
Reports say that the gondola cabins stopped so abruptly that skis and snowboards fell from exterior racks with at least one cabin became lodged at an angle in a station with a broken window.

A passenger on the gondola told CBC radio, “The shock wave traveled on the cables. The gondola went down, went up, went down lower and went up higher, the movement was gaining momentum. My girlfriend in front of me raised one foot. We wondered if it was going to drop out.”
Out of the 21 people injured, 12 were transported to hospitals by ambulance.

The teams of Mont-Sainte-Anne and the mechanical lift manufacturer, as well as specialized contractors, have been carrying out a complete inspection of the lift since yesterday afternoon to determine the cause of the sudden unexpected stop.
