It’s officially fall, and Colorado is showing the signs of the season better than anywhere. Currently most of Colorado is fully glisening with the rich yellow tones of the fall season. From Denver, west on I-70 through Vail, on down to Leadville, Independence Pass, and Aspen, just about everywhere you look the landscape is caked in the trademark golden hues that are the hallmark of a Rocky Mountain change in season. There’s a little bit of old snow hanging around on a few of the 14’ers, some of the new snow that fell the previous week is still hiding out on a few protected north facing spots, and it’s downright cold as soon as the sun sets.Enjoy a major hit of Autumn with these shots that were taken traveling from Leadville, over Independence Pass, into Aspen, and finally to one of the most photographed places in the lower 48, the Maroon Bells.

Independence Pass harbors a wealth of activities for the local and visitor to the area. Great hiking, endless backcountry skiing in winter, and a wealth of rock climbing opportunities are just the tip of the iceberg. The Bulldog Boulders are one of these gems, easily accessible right off the road.

The hike into the Maroon Bells is like living in a Bob Ross painting right now. Intense bursts of yellow and gold mixed with surreal alpine views are everywhere, and the world famous Maroon Bells are focused at the center. I now know why this is one of the most photographed locales in the lower 48. Not only that, take a look at the relief off “the Bells”. I can’t wait to get back here and ski!
