The United States Mint has unveiled designs for a new series of circulating coins celebrating youth sports, including a quarter featuring snowboarding scheduled to enter circulation in 2027.
Announced on October 26, the Youth Sports Coin Collection will introduce five new quarter-dollar designs each year from 2027 through 2030. The program will also feature one half-dollar coin annually highlighting Paralympic sports, bringing athletic achievements and participation to American coinage.
Snowboarding Among 20 Sports Featured on Quarters
The four-year program will showcase 20 sports across its quarter designs, with five sports represented each year. Snowboarding is scheduled to appear on the 2027 quarter along with baseball, golf, soccer, and ssoftball.
The complete quarter lineup includes the following sports.
- 2027: Baseball, golf, soccer, softball, and snowboarding
- 2028: American football, swimming, gymnastics, lacrosse, and track & field
- 2029: Basketball, wrestling, tennis, cheerleading, and karate
- 2030: Figure skating, skiing, skateboarding, volleyball, and ice hockey
Each quarter will feature a sport-specific design on its reverse side, while the obverse will display a new likeness of George Washington created specifically for the collection.
Paralympic Sports Also Get Their Own Coins
The collection extends beyond quarters, with a new half-dollar design released annually to celebrate sports adapted for athletes with disabilities. The Paralympic sports lineup includes wheelchair basketball in 2027, para climbing in 2028, para ice hockey in 2029 and para snowboarding in 2030. The half-dollar coins will share a common obverse featuring a newly designed likeness of John F. Kennedy.
Public Helped Shape the Collection
The Mint invited Americans to provide input on the sports they wanted to see represented in the collection in early 2025. An online survey ran from January 22 through February 20, with the Mint developing its list of potential sports in consultation with national health and sports organizations.
The Youth Sports Coin Collection is scheduled to run from 2027 through 2030, offering collectors and outdoor enthusiasts several years of new designs to look forward to.
More information and the newly unveiled designs are available through the U.S. Mint’s official Youth Sports Coin Collection page.
