Ski racing legend Lindsey Vonn is back the gym following a series of surgeries to rebuild the leg she severely damaged during the Olympic downhill event. Vonn suffered a complex tibia fracture complicated by compartment syndrome in Italy which could have led to amputation if not for the incredible work by her medical team including orthopedic surgeon Dr. Hackett. Vonn is currently wheelchair bound and is expected to spend at least two month on crutches. Despite the obvious pain, the champion skier is back in the gym working hard on rehab:

“Definitely some hard times but still thankful… still working hard. The only goal is to get healthy. One day at a time.” -Lindsey Vonn

Once all the bones in her leg have healed, Vonn will decide whether or not to have all the orthopedic plates, screws, rods and nails removed and get additional surgery to fix her blown ACL:

“It will take around a year for all of the bones to heal and then I will decide if I want to take out all the metal or not, and then go back into surgery and finally fix my ACL.” -Lindsey Vonn
