Italy — The Olympics are officially over, and it was among the best in recent memory.
Some of the breakout skiing stars included Norway’s Nordic skier Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, who won six golds, and Swiss ski racer Franjo von Allmen, with three golds. Americans definitely made some headlines, including Vonn’s crash, Breezy Johnson’s gold medal in Downhill, Mikaela Shiffrin’s gold in Slalom, Lemley’s gold in moguls, and Ferrara’s gold in his third Olympics. However, there are many skiing events, so you may have missed a few stories that are worth noting.
Federica Brignone Pulls Off Unbelievable Comeback
The Italian suffered various injuries last April and was expected to miss most of the 2025-26 season. However, she didn’t need surgery, leading to a remarkable comeback at the Olympics. She secured gold in Giant Slalom and Super-G, bringing home two medals in Italy.
Ryan Cochran-Siegle Does It Again
The Cochrans got another Olympic medal for their collection. Ryan secured second place in his final World Cup event before the Olympics and carried that momentum into the games. He secured the Silver in Downhill, his second Silver Olympic medal overall. It was secured on the same day his mother received her first Gold medal many years ago.
Mikael Kingsbury Continued To Prove He’s Mogul Skiing’s GOAT
The winningest mogul skier of all time added a few more medals to his collection. The Canadian secured Gold in the first-ever Dual Moguls Olympics event, and Silver in Moguls. While Canada may be bummed they lost twice in hockey to the Free Bird-playing Americans, at least they got Mikael.
Eileen Gu Compted Against Athletes, Journalists, and Politicians
Eileen Gu was the center of discussion during the Olympics, and it wasn’t just over her skiing. Her decision to represent China rather than the country of her birth remains controversial, and many skeptics have spoken out against it. This included the Vice President of the United States, who questioned why she wouldn’t represent the country that gave her so much. Not gonna lie, I think he’s just jealous because she’s a better skier than him. I’ve seen the TMZ video.
She also faced some odd questions from journalists, including whether she considered her two silver medals to be competitions she had lost. Gu concluded the Olympics with a Gold in halfpipe, meaning she got three medals overall. She dedicated her gold medal to her grandmother, who sadly passed away recently.
Nick Goepper Skis In Jeans
Nick Goepper made some waves for various reasons at the Olympics. The first reason was a halfpipe practice run in jeans, dismantling the old stereotypes. He then showed off in his impressive runs at the halfpipe. Unfortunately, he took a nasty spill during the last halfpipe run, spraining his MCL.
The Ski Crotch Scandals
Last year, it emerged that Norwegian ski jumpers had used their crotches to create an advantage when sending it in the air. This included adding extra layering to the crotch area of their suits.
Before the Olympics, a new allegation emerged that some ski jumpers were getting their penises injected with hydraulic acid. As Dr. Brian Sutterer explained, this would also create an unfair advantage.
A longer watch about the scandal comes from investigative journalist Pablo Torre, which goes into the deeper details about the situation. While it made noise during the Olympics, it probably won’t be the last time we hear about the crotches of ski jumpers.
