A Pennsylvania road got hit with an ultra rare avalanche in the north of the state prompting an urgent traffic advisory Sunday afternoon. The slide blocked blocked Coxton Road beyond the 900 block, leaving the roadway impassable in both directions due to snow and debris.

“We have received reports of significant snow slides falling onto Coxton Road beyond the 900 block. The road is currently impassable. Please find an alternate route and continue to avoid traveling unless absolutely necessary. Penndot has been made aware of the issue.” -Duryea Fire Police

Snowย avalanchesย in Pennsylvania are extremely rare but anywhere there is snow accumulation and enough incline, they can happen. While we don’t expect any more Pennsylvania avalanche, dangerous road conditions persist as widespread heavy snowfall brought up to 13 inches to region as of late Sunday afternoon. Be safe out there folks.
