White Pass GM Rikki Cooper took to social media to speak directly to her customers about the challenges the Washington State ski resort has faced due to a recent spat of warm and wet weather. The following video was shot over the past few days and shows resort staff working hard to save their snowpack by digging ditches and diverting water. Copper also warns folks to stay off US Highway 12 unless absolutely necessary as resort staff have encountered downed trees, boulders, flying debris and water on their commute. Some of these very same staff members are also dealing with flood water at home.
“While we watch the weather models and hope for the best, we want you to know we are pushing hard to be open next weekend and hope you will hang in there with us and take this one day at a time.” -White Pass GM Rikki Cooper
Its obviously not a great sign to see someone on SUP paddling around the base of a chairlift but we truly appreciate it when ski resorts issue honest updates and keep their guests well informed about operational plans. Fingers crossed for White Pass, wishing them cold weather so all this precipitation can switch from rain to snow.
