Mont-Tremblant, Quebec Few artists accomplished so much in such a short time frame as The Police. The trio of Sting, Andy Summers, and Stewart Copeland created many hits during their time together. And two of them even have a skiing connection.

In the music video for De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da,” The Police traveled to a ski resort in Quebec. Why Quebec? The Police were actually in Montreal for a concert, but the show was postponed. During their free time, they filmed two music videos at Gray Rocks ski resort. The first was the official music video for “De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da.”

The second was an alternative Christmas version of “Don’t Stand So Close to Me.” Not sure what’s Christmassy about that song, but doing that probably made the record label a lot of dough.

History of Gray Rocks

Opened back in 1906, the Gray Rocks Hotel and ski resort were staples of Tremblant. The ski resort featured 22 trails and 4 lifts. As you can imagine, the one major problem it faced was being in the same town as Tremblant Resort, a much larger mountain.

The ski resort and hotel that were part of the property closed in 2009, due to warm winters and ownership losing over $4 million CAD to that Bernie Madoff guy. A fire in 2014 destroyed most of the hotel. The two golf courses on site featured different fates, one closed in 2020, and the other was purchased by Clublink.

In 2023, the City of Mont-Tremblant purchased the land that encompassed the former ski area. The new trails opened during the 2024-25 season, which included routes for snowshoers, fat bikers, and winter hikers.
