Enfield, New Hampshire — Good news for New England skiers and riders! After a couple of months of uncertainty, Whaleback Mountain is set to operate this season after the raising of the funds needed to open.
This was thanks to fundraising efforts and various events held over the past few months. There was the Granite Backcountry film festival, which saw the Northeast premiere of Noah Dine’s new film, Still Excited To Ski. Last weekend was the Fall Flannel Fest, which had live music by Brooks Hubbard, fresh snow falling from the sky, auction items, and good food.
In addition, Whaleback’s new surface lift has been installed. It was set up this past weekend. The lift will service the main race trail (Lower Spout) and the terrain park (Canyon/Scrimshaw), with reaching this terrain made easier by newly created connector trails. It will certainly come in handy for the Thursday Night Race League.

While it seems the chairlift won’t operate this winter, it will still be a fun winter at Whaleback with various events and lots of good skiing. If you find yourself going up or down I-89 this winter, go check them out, get some turns in, and/or grab a beer.
