A man was captured on camera assisting a buck that had become entangled in a rope along the Oregon coast. It clearly took a lot of work to untangle the deer as the rope was wrapped quite heavily around the animal’s antlers. Despite its fighting the man continued to work at the antlers until the buck was completely free.

While this man certainly deserves some recognition for helping, it’s always important that civilians never approach wild animals. Deer are naturally afraid of humans and will generally avoid them or choose to flee if they feel threatened, but in some cases they have been known agressive, especially around fawns.

If you spot a deer or any animal in need of help, you’re best bet is to contact your local wildlife authorities. In Oregon, that’s the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife. Observe deer and other wildlife from a distance, keep pets inside when deer are in your yard, and never intentionally feed a wild animal.
