It was unseasonably hot in the Dresser, Wisconsin over the weekend but that didn’t stop Trollhaugen Ski Area from hosting their 20th anniversary Rail Jam.
The event began humbly in 2005 with truck loads of snow collected by Zambonis at local hockey rinks brought in to create a narrow strip for skiers and snowboarders to session. In the past 5 years Trollhaugen has transitioned to using snow preserved from the previous winter, a trick they learned from Scandinavian ski resorts. After toying with different techniques, they have refined their “snow science” over the years and now have a reliable stash specifically set aside for this event.
Skiers and snowboarders flocked to the small Midwestern resort for this one-of-a-kind event and despite the temps soaring into the 90s, it was massive hit. Well done Troll, SKØL!
“This is what dreams are made of. Two days, 330+ humans, infinite joy. The 20th Anniversary of the Open Haugen Rail Jam is a wrap, and yea, we’re gonna need a few days to process all of the amazing things that just occurred. Thank you to everyone that made this weekend so special. We love you! If you didn’t get a chance to lap with us this weekend, don’t fret! The season is soooo close!” -Trollhaugen Ski Area
