The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office is seeking help from the public in identifying a man and woman suspected of being involved in a violent assault in relation to dogs on a hiking trail around Granite Basin Lake near Prescott, Arizona.

At around 8:45am on September 6th, 2025, two hikers 2ere on Trail 261 near Granite Basin Lake when they encountered a couple walking with a large brown dog. After a brief verbal exchange related to the dog, the male suspected allegedly punched one of the hikers multiple times. The second hiker attempted to intervene and was attacked by the female suspect.

The male suspect then allegedly produced a small black handgun and pointed it at one of the victims before leaving the area and heading back toward the parking lot. The victims sustained minor injuries. Deputies responded with haste but were unable to locate the suspects upon their arrival.

The male is described as white in his 30s or 40s with a thin build and slight facial stubble. The female is described as white in her 30s or 40s with long blonde hair. She was wearing dark-colored shorts and a white wristwatch. They were both accompanied by a large brown dog.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office is encouraging anyone who may have seen this couple on the morning of Saturday, Septemberr 6th, to come forward.
