The drive leading up to Bryce Canyon National Park is an incredible experience. The desert begins to blend in with the red rocks of Utah, leaving drivers awestruck by their surroundings. The main highlight is driving through the man-made arches. As an evolving part of the landscape, Utah ensures that it doesn’t result in a catastrophe for drivers or the roads.

A few weeks ago, the Utah Department of Transportation shared a video detailing how LIDAR technology helps protect these arches. This LiDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) technology helps create a 3D map of the tracks. From there, these maps determine whether erosion is happening. If it is, UDOT can then work on improving the structural integrity of them.

The video is informative as is, but the catchy music makes it even more memorable.
