The Paris metropolitan area is getting a new gondola to answer a long-time mobility challenge in the region. The Cรขble C1 project, built by Doppelmayr, will extend and connect the public transport system of the รle-de-France region, prolonging metro line 8 from Crรฉteil – Pointe du Lac to Villeneuve-Saint-Georges.
The route, featuring 5 stations, will connect the town of Crรฉteil with the municipalities of Limeil-Brรฉvannes, Valenton, and Villeneuve-Saint-Georges in only 18 minutes. It’s set to stretch a total of 4.5km, or just around 2.8 miles.
The project began in Crรฉteil back in 2022, and work started on the Limeil-Brรฉvannes Plage Bleue station in 2023. The first tower was installed in Valenton between October 17 and 18 in 2023. This year, in 2025, the gondola is set to be ready for test drives, commissioning, and operation should all go well.
The gondola, featuring a 10-MGD ropeway system, is set to have a final capacity of ย 2,000 people per hour per direction and speed of 6 meters per second (~13.5mph). It will feature 105 gondolas with 10 passengers fitting in each cabin.
