“Ain’t this what they’ve been waitin’ for? You ready?”– Meek Mill

Update 2:00 p.m. EST: It looks like Wild Mountain has beaten Andes Tower Hills to become the ski resort to open in North America this season. Wild Mountain opened with a rope tow and single trail open, along with multiple terrain park features. Wild opened at 12 p.m. central time today, while Andes Towers Hills opened at 1 p.m.

Have you heard of Andes Tower Hills in Minnesota? They will be the second ski resort to open in North America for the winter season, as they will be running their Turtle Express magic carpet today from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. Only one trail will be open, which is Bunny Hill. This of course isn’t factoring in Big SNOW American Dream, which is a year-round ski resort that’s open year-round. The announcement from Andes Tower Hills is below.

Is the move tacky? I’d say so, it would be nice to see them get a chairlift open rather than a conveyor lift that is a couple of dozen feet. It’s a brilliant P/R move though, as it leads to people learning about this small Minnesota ski area. As the NBC P.S.A. ads say, the more you know.

In terms of who’s next, Arapahoe Basin, Keystone, and Loveland are making snow and will be receiving snow this weekend. I would say openings for all three mountains will be coming soon.
