Mammoth Mountain will open for the 2026-27 ski season earlier than originally planned, welcoming skiers and snowboarders on Thursday, November 5. The California ski resort had previously scheduled its opening day for November 13.

The decision comes after a productive stretch of winter weather delivered 9 to 15 inches of fresh snow over the past week. Colder temperatures have also allowed snowmaking crews to take advantage of favorable conditions and prepare the mountain for opening day.

“Mother Nature has been kind to us with this past storm cycle dropping 9 to 15 inches of fresh snow over the weekend. Snowmaking teams have also been able to take full advantage of the colder temperatures over the past few days to get the mountain ready for an early opening. We have some of the best in the business working hard on all the necessary preparations and can’t wait to see everyone for opening day on Thursday.” – Emily van Greuning, Communications Director, Mammoth Resorts

What Will Be Open at Mammoth?

Mammoth’s opening-day operations will feature the Lower Panorama Gondola and Broadway Express (Chair 1). Skiers and snowboarders will have access to Broadway, Silver Tip, and Rusty’s.

The resort plans to expand available terrain as soon as conditions allow, meaning additional snowfall and continued snowmaking could bring more terrain online as the season progresses. Mammoth reports that snowfall totals for the season have reached between 12 and 20 inches so far.

The early opening is welcome news for California skiers eager to get back on the mountain. The November 5 opening means that Mammoth will be the first to open on the West Coast, barring any surprise changes to opening schedules.
