Hermon, Maine — ‘Twas a busier summer than usual at Hermon Mountain.

Fresh off an ownership change, the new group is aspiring to make it a happening place year-round. This includes summer activities such as disc golf and concerts. Still, the skiing and riding experience remains a focus.

This week, Hermon Mountain announced it’s working to get its second summit lift online. Located next to the existing double chairlift, the t-bar hasn’t reportedly operated for years. According to New England Ski History, it first opened during the 1966-67 season. If operational, it would add needed redundancy, as they currently rely on a double chairlift. There’s no promise it’ll operate this upcoming winter, but it’s exciting to see them put some effort into a revival.

About Hermon Mountain

Located a 10-minute drive from Bangor (Maine’s second-largest city), Hermon Mountain (also known as New Hermon Mountain for some reason) serves as a feeder hill to Maine’s bigger options. The ski area features 20 trails, 3 lifts, a vertical drop of 350 feet, and night skiing. Beyond skiing and riding, it also has a tubing park.

The Whitcomb family was the longtime owners of the ski area, but they sold it to a group of locals earlier this year.

This past summer, Hermon Mountain added summer activities. For this first offseason, the additions included disc golf, yard games, and a restaurant inside the base lodge. They also host various events, such as concerts, comedy shows, bingo, and cribbage nights.
