A 28-year-old climber was injured Saturday after being struck by a falling rock at the base of White Ledge near Stanton Mountain in Bartlett, New Hampshire.

New Hampshire Fish and Game was notified of the incident at approximately 12:19pm on October 10th, 2026. The injured climber, an individual Gardner, Massachusetts, was climbing when the rock struck her.

Rescue Crews Respond to White Ledge

New Hampshire Fish and Game conservation officers responded to the scene alongside Bartlett-Jackson Ambulance Service, the Bartlett Police Department, and Mountain Rescue Service.

The climber was located at the base of White Ledge, where emergency medical personnel evaluated and treated her injuries. Due to the difficult terrain, rescuers were required to carry her out to an awaiting ambulance.

She was subsequently transported to Memorial Hospital in North Conway for further evaluation and treatment.

Falling Rocks Pose Risks for Climbers

The incident highlights one of the hazards climbers can encounter in mountainous terrain. Loose rock can fall unexpectedly, potentially striking climbers below even when they are not directly involved in dislodging it.

Rockfall can be particularly dangerous at the base of cliffs and along climbing routes, where climbers may have limited opportunities to avoid falling debris.

New Hampshire Fish and Game has not released additional details about the incident or the extent of the injuries. The agency’s investigation and any further updates were not detailed in the initial release.
