Heavy construction is underway on Aspen Mountain as crews work to install the new Nell Bell chairlift ahead of the 2026-27 ski season.
Tower by tower, workers are lifting and positioning the massive components needed to build the new high-speed lift. Helicopter operations are playing a key role in the project, allowing crews to move heavy equipment into place across the mountain.
The new lift represents a significant change to the lift system serving the lower portion of Aspen Mountain.
New Nell Bell Chairlift Replaces Two Lifts
The Nell Bell chairlift is being constructed to replace the existing Little Nell and Bell Mountain fixed-grip chairlifts. Once completed, the new detachable high-speed chairlift will provide a direct ride from Gondola Plaza to the top of the former Bell Mountain chairlift.
The project will combine the service previously provided by two separate lifts into a single high-speed chairlift. Skiers will be able to access the upper portion of the mountain without relying on the two older fixed-grip lifts.
The new lift will begin at Gondola Plaza and extend all the way to the top of Bell Mountain, creating a longer and more direct lift experience.
Construction is taking place throughout the offseason as crews work to complete the lift before winter. The ongoing tower installation marks a major visible step in the project, with helicopter operations helping position the infrastructure needed for the new chairlift.
