Seven Springs Mountain Resort is giving skiers a chance to take home a piece of Pennsylvania ski history.
The resort will auction individual chairs from its retired Blitzen triple chairlift from Sept. 25 through Sept. 27, with bidding starting at $250 per chair. The lift had been carrying skiers and snowboarders at Seven Springs since 1975.
The online auction opens at noon Sept. 25 and closes at 5 p.m. Sept. 27. Each chair will be sold as an individual lot. Winning bidders receive the exact chair associated with the lot they purchase.
Bidders should be aware the old Blitzen chairs are pretty substantial pieces of equipment. Seven Springs says each is approximately 8 feet tall, nearly 5 feet 8 inches wide and weighs about 200 pounds. The chairs include the neck and bail assembly but not the original grip attachment. Because they spent decades outside, buyers should expect scratches, fading, rust and other signs of use.
There is also no shipping option. Winning bidders must collect their chairs from Seven Springs on Oct. 3 or Oct. 4 and are responsible for bringing an appropriate vehicle and enough help to load and transport them.
The Blitzen Triple Is Being Replaced
The auction follows the retirement of the Blitzen triple as Seven Springs prepares a new four-person fixed-grip Doppelmayr chairlift for the 2026-27 season.
Vail Resorts announced the replacement as part of its 2026 capital plan, saying the new lift is intended to reduce congestion and bottlenecks while improving access from the main base area toward the North Face side of the mountain.
The new quad is expected to increase uphill capacity by approximately 33%, or about 600 additional passengers per hour compared with the old triple. The unloading point is also being relocated to improve skier flow and provide easier access to both the Front Face and North Face terrain.
The replacement comes after roughly five decades of service for Blitzen. Parts for the old lift had become increasingly difficult to source, according to reporting on the project, contributing to the decision to retire it.
Auction Proceeds Will Support Local Fire Departments
The chair sale is also a fundraiser.
In partnership with EpicPromise, proceeds will benefit the EpicPromise Foundation and three volunteer fire departments serving the area: Seven Springs Volunteer Fire Department, New Centerville Volunteer Fire Department and Bakersville Volunteer Fire Department.
For longtime Seven Springs skiers, the auction offers something beyond ordinary resort merchandise. The chairs spent more than 50 years carrying generations of skiers up the mountain, and after retirement, some will soon end up in garages, backyards, ski houses and collections instead.

Each chair will be auctioned individually. Photos of each chair available for auction are available on the auction website. Winning bidders will receive the specific chair associated with the lot the win. Our minimum starting bid for each chair is $250.

Winning bidders must pick up their chair at Seven Springs Mountain Resort at the Avalanche Parking Lot on the following dates and times:

Sunday, October 4 from 10a.m. – 3p.m.
Pickup Requirements
Seven Springs will not ship or deliver chairs.
Seven Springs will not hold any chairs beyond the designated pickup dates.
Winning bidders are responsible for transportation.
Chairs weigh approximately 200 pounds and require appropriate vehicles and assistance for loading.
We strongly recommend bringing additional help when picking up your chair.
