Alterra Mountain Company is investing more than $350 million across its family of mountain destinations for the 2026-27 winter season, with major projects focused on terrain expansion, snowmaking, avalanche safety, guest amenities and employee housing.
The Denver-based company announced the investment program on September 9th. Two of the largest long-term projects are taking shape at Deer Valley Resort in Utah and Tremblant in Quebec.
Terrain Expansion at Deer Valley and Tremblant
Deer Valley is continuing its Expanded Excellence plan following two seasons of major development. For the 2026-27 season the resort will open the Hail Peak Express, adding 200 skiable acres and seven new runs.
The additions will bring Deer Valley to 4,500 skiable acres and 32 chairlifts. The resort will also introduce new snow feature zones with rollers, berms and gentle ski-cross elements aimed at younger and beginner skiers.
Mont Tremblant is also preparing for a major expansion. A $42.5 million CAD investment will support the future Timber Summit area which is scheduled to open for the 2027-28 season. The project will add 62 acres, eight new trails and a high-speed chairlift that is expected to increase hourly lift capacity by 10 percent.
For this winter, Tremblant will open a new learning area at the base of Versant Soleil designed specifically for first-time skiers and snowboarders.
Snowmaking and Avalanche Safety Investments
Alterra is also putting substantial money into snowmaking and avalanche mitigation. Palisades Tahoe is investing $3.2 million in remote avalanche control equipment, while Mammoth Mountain and June Mountain are adding 16 Remote Avalanche Control Systems through a combined $5.7 million project.
Solitude Mountain Resort is expanding its snowmaking network with new fixed and mobile snow guns. Winter Park Resort is continuing its multiyear snowmaking rebuild with additional automated and mobile guns designed to improve early season coverage.
Several resorts are also expanding their use of hybrid snowcats. Palisades Tahoe is adding two hybrid Pisten Bully 600E+ machines, while Mammoth Mountain is adding three.
Guest Amenities and Employee Housing
Alterra’s spending goes beyond just the mountain operations. Stratton Mountain Resort will introduce a premium Black Bear Pass lounge, while Mammoth will open the new Apricity restaurant at The Westin Monache.
Employee housing is another major focus, with renovations planned at Palisades Tahoe, Mammoth Mountain, Snowshoe, Steamboat and Crystal Mountain while also pursuing new housing development and acquisitions.
The company said the investments are part of its broader effort to improve conditions for both guests and employees across its growing network of mountain destinations.
