ASHFORD, Wash. — Fire crews from the U.S. Forest Service and U.S. Wildland Fire Service are currently battling an uncontained 300-acre wildfire in Mount Rainier National Park.
National Park Service staff are assisting in the response to the Grand Park 2 Fire, which was reported Thursday around 12:30 p.m. The fire is burning roughly 3 miles north of the Sunrise Visitor Center. Officials reported zero containment as of Saturday.
The Sunrise area and White River Campground are closed to the public, and park personnel have escorted all visitors out of the affected zones. Road closures include White River Road from State Route 410 to the White River Campground, along with Sunrise Road from the campground to Sunrise. All trails originating from these roads, as well as trails throughout the Grand Park area, remain closed until further notice.
Firefighters are employing direct suppression and confinement strategies using engines, hand crews and aircraft to protect life, property, and natural and cultural resources. Additional firefighting resources have been ordered to assist.
Officials described fire behavior as moderate, with active tree torching, spotting and creeping. Current weather conditions feature warm temperatures, low relative humidity and gusty winds.

- Gand Park 2 Fire – There is an active fire near Grand Park in the northeast area of the park. Sunrise Road and White River Road to SR410 are CLOSED until further notice. All trails originating from these park roads, and all trails in the Grand Park area, are also closed until further notice.
