WISCONSIN — A Bingham Farms woman accused of using alcohol and marijuana before driving near the bottom of ski slopes at an Oakland County resort has been ordered to serve 30 days in jail.
Margaret Feely, 58, was sentenced Thursday to two years of probation and fined $500, according to Oakland County Circuit Court records. The sentence stems from a Feb. 24 incident at Alpine Valley Ski Area in White Lake Township.
Prosecutors said Feely drove along the base of the ski slopes near skiers and snowboarders, including children, putting them in danger.
Her vehicle will be immobilized for one year. Feely is prohibited from using alcohol or illegal drugs and must submit to testing for compliance, court records show. She also is barred from entering establishments that serve alcohol.
Feely was charged with operating a vehicle while impaired. Witnesses told police they saw her smoking marijuana before the incident and that she was wearing ski boots while driving. Prosecutors said she showed poor balance during a field sobriety test and slurred her speech.
