South Africa — While not as plentiful as other continents, there are lift-served ski resorts in Africa. This includes Morocco for the Northern Hemisphere and Lesotho for the Southern Hemisphere. However, there was once skiing in South Africa.
In a recently released video by YouTuber Small Town South Africa, they explore the abandoned Tiffendell ski resort. The family drove to and walked around the eerie yet fully intact village. The ski resort was shut down due to COVID-19 restrictions and has stayed closed since.
Based on my niche of watching abandoned places on YouTube, these places get trashed pretty quickly. That’s not the case here, as the rugged and remote road has kept it in pristine condition. One building even contains a fully untouched rental ski collection.
However, the door isn’t shut on a comeback, as the ski resort is for sale. It’s currently on sale via CHS Snowmakers, with a listing price available if you’re actually interested. The potential here is four seasons, with skiing, sledding, and snow play available during the winter. For the summer, there’s a fishing pond and hiking trails. There are various options for overnight accommodations, making it a viable business.
Plus, if you fix up that treacherous mountain road, you’ll probably be able to secure free beers for life from locals.
