MAMMOTH LAKES, California – We are properly in the dog days of summer right now, and for many of us it feels like there’s no escape from the extremely high heat and sun. But ski season is a lot closer than you might think. Some ski resorts, if conditions allow, could open in just a few months, and while most haven’t announced an opening day yet, California’s Mammoth Mountain plans to be open in 105 days.
Mammoth’s 2026/2027 opening day is currently scheduled for November 13th, with the opening day event set to run from 8:30am to 4pm. Skiers and snowboarders can join Woolly for the annual first chair and banner breakthrough before enjoying a toast to the new ski season. Festivities will be hosted at the bottom of Broadway Express.
2025/2026 Opening Day Delays
While exciting to see that Mammoth has an opening day set, it’s important to note that it is subject to change based on weather conditions. Last year the ski resort was scheduled to open on November 14th but pushed it back due to weather conditions. Initially the opening day was pushed to November 15th, but conditions continued to fight back until finally the mountain spun their lifts to kick off the winter on November 20th.
Despite the delayed start and some rough patches throughout the season, Mammoth had a very solid 2025/2026 winter recording a total of 297 inches of snowfall. That’s more than the 286 inches seen during the 2024/2025 season, but not quite as big as the 2023/2024 season where 367 inches fell or the incredible 2022/2023 season where 715 inches fell.
