France — Compared with the United States, Europe has a robust summer ski industry. Various ski resorts stay open into the summer thanks to glaciers at higher elevations. There are also various indoor ski resorts across the continent to check out, which are frequently used by athletes continuing to hone their craft.
After closing for the ski season in early May, Tignes consolidates its snowpack on the Glacier Grande Motte for skiing in June and July. Guests reach the lifts by riding a funicular. From there, skiers and riders have their choice of a decent amount of terrain and lifts.
YouTuber Madame LeVoyage detailed her experience skiing the glacier in a video released last week. She dives into the trip up, the summer skiing setup, and the snow conditions at this time of year.
If you want to get some summer skiing in at Tignes this year, you’d better act fast. They’ll close the summer ski terrain on July 19th.
