Killington Ski Resort in Vermont is starting their off-season with a bang, literally. Crews at Killington are laying the groundwork for the new fixed quad inbound for 2026-27 and they are using explosives.
The new $6.5 million Snowdon Quad from Doppelmayr will be replacing the Snowdon Triple. The old triple took its last spin in March after an incredible 53-year run and the folks at Killington wasted no time to start blasting after concluding the ski season on Memorial Day.
Here is a short video from Killington showing crews blasting for new tower and terminal foundations, using twelve to fourteen 7,500-pound blasting mats to contain debris from each shot.
“Summer is here, but work on Winter 2026/27 is already in full swing.” -Killington
Opened during the 1973-74 season, the Snowdon Triple wasn’t the first lift at Killington, but was the oldest operating lift at the massive ski resort as of this season. It serviced Snowdon Mountain, from which you can also reach the top of Snowdon Six. From the mid and top stations, there’s access to intermediate, advanced, and expert trails and glades. The chairlift swap comes in the midst of a multi-year transformation for Killington, with $60 million in capital improvements slated to be completed by the end of summer 2026.
