Winter surfing seems incredibly intimidating, especially to people who don’t surf at all. The cold water and often-times larger waves make for what look to be a pretty brutal experience. But many hardcore surfers love it, especially with wetsuit technology getting as good as it is.

Professional surfers Kai Lenny and Kohl Christensen took their winter surfing to the next level, using a helicopter to access some gnarly waves in the frigid waters of Alaska. Of course being surrounded by massive, snow covered mountains, they had to grab some powder turns on their snowboarders at the same time.

They did the trip in partnership with Third Edge Heli, a helicopter skiing company with trips in Alaska, Canada, and Chile. Of course their primary works surrounds skiing and snowboarding, but they went a bit off their standard track to offer a few surfing lifts during this trip.
