The clock is ticking to get your turns at Northeastern ski resorts.
We’re into the first full week of May, and there are five ski resorts that plan to reopen this week across the Northeastern U.S. and Canada. However, daily operations have concluded at all still-open mountains, with select openings (mostly on weekends) available for the rest of the ski season.
These snowpacks are being helped by the recent colder-than-usual weather. There were even snow sightings at mountains like Jay Peak this past weekend. However, a warm Tuesday followed by a rainstorm the day after could cause some damage.
Black Mountain, New Hampshire: Operating on Saturdays and Sundays. The goal is to make it to Memorial Day. They also aspire to make snow in May, but it’s unclear whether they’ll get the chance. You can check out Black’s spring event schedule here.
Jay Peak Resort, Vermont: Daily operations at Jay concluded yesterday. Sunday was the curtain call for Flyer, Metro, and Taxi chairlifts. Jay plans to reopen for Friday – Sunday with the Jet Triple running. Operations could also be happening for the weekend of May 16-17.
Killington Resort, Vermont: Killington concluded daily operations yesterday. Operations from here on out will be Friday-Sunday, with operations solely at the Superstar Express. They aim to remain open until Memorial Day, with the possibility of extending into June.
Camelback Resort, Pennyslvania: Camelback offered May lift-served skiing for the first time ever at their mountain. They are closed today, but plan to reopen for Cinco de Mayo. Vamonos! It’s unclear what the plan is after that, though another weekend seems possible.
Sommet Saint-Sauveur, Québec: Situated a little bit north of Montreal, the Quebec ski resort tends to keep the lifts spinning until mid-May. They are going to open this upcoming weekend, with plans to operate on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Their closing weekend will see them operate Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday, as it will be Victoria Day Weekend up north.
(Kinda Counts) Big SNOW, New Jersey: While enclosed, it does offer the chance to go skiing and riding in the Northeast. They remain open daily.
