Wausau, Wisconsin — Who says that the Midwest doesn’t have steeps? While the region doesn’t have the biggest vert, there are some quality places for steep skiing, such as Mount Bohemia. Situated a couple of hundred miles away from Bohemia is Granite Peak.

Located off the top of the Blitzen chairlift are a series of steep runs, glades, and chutes. This includes Caroline’s Couloir, which looks like a mini version of a notorious run over at Jackson Hole. The run has even earned the nickname Midwest Corbet’s. It requires a full send, but the flat landing at the end looks a little more forgiving than Corbet’s.

ArjunSki is a YouTuber who shares POVs of various ski runs across the continent. He recently took a trip to Wisconsin and decided to take on Caroline’s Couloir. However, Caroline wasn’t so sweet that day, which led to one of his runs ending in a crash.

While it’s not at the caliber of Corbet’s or S&S, it does feel like a ton of fun to do. While Granite Peak is closed for the season, you can start planning your trip to try Caroline’s Couloir for next winter.

About Granite Peak

Situated in Rib Mountain State Park, Granite Peak is Wisconsin’s largest ski area. Granite Peak features 400 skiable acres, 7 lifts, and a vertical drop of 700 feet. Future plans for the ski area include terrain expansion and adding more hiking and biking trails.

It’s been an Indy Pass mountain for a long time, but it will join the Ikon Pass for the 2025-26 season.
