The National Park Service has begun site work at Acadia National Park in Maine as part of a project to repave five miles of Park Loop Road.

From April 6th through April 14th, a section of the road is closed to all visitors, including walkers and cyclists. The closure runs from the start of the one-way section of the loop to Kebo Street. Vehicles will not be permitted on that stretch of road until April 15th.

Park Loop Road is one of the island’s three major road systems and the premier scenic drive along the east side of Mount Desert Island. Constructed between 1921 and 1958, the 27-mile route connects visitors to Acadia’s lakes, mountains, and shoreline, providing access to destinations including Sieur de Monts, Sand Beach, Otter Point, Jordan Pond, and Cadillac Mountain. The road was built to give motor vehicles dedicated access to the park, separate from local roads and non-motorized carriage roads.

Park officials are asking visitors to plan accordingly and to expect limited access to the affected area during the construction period.
