A dog owner lost their pup while hiking in the Bergamasque Alps in northern Italy, with the dog, named Volga, taking shelter after a fall. Fortunately the dog knew to find a spot and wait for the owner, rather than wandering into the wilderness.
Later the owner found a volunteer with a thermal equipped drone to search the area, locating the dog huddled along the cliff side.
According to Reddit user Sonoale, who claims to be friends with the dog owner, Volga was totally fine despite taking a fairly large fall. After being rescued she was running and jumping in the snow right up until they got to the car.
Finding the dog was certainly great news for the owner, but this story does serve as a reminder to the potential risks of hiking with a dog or pet. It’s best to keep a dog on leash while hiking at all times, and it’s required in many places, for the safety of the pet and for the safety of others and nearby wildlife.
