Ski Snacks

Proper fueling while skiing is super important. Not just to be comfortable, but also to make sure you have enough energy to safely complete whatever objective you are tackling for the day. I think that finding a balance of sweet and salty is a good way to cover all your bases.

My all time number one pocket snack is a packet of Trader Joe’s “Just a Handful of Olives”, these are pitted and salted manzanilla olives in a convenient packet for bringing on the go. These are perfect because they are just salty enough without being overwhelming. I unfortunately do not live in an area with a Trader Joe’s, but every time I am, a couple packets are for sure coming home with me.

My next go-to is a classic PB&J sandwich. You really can’t go wrong here, if you get hungry enough this sandwich will taste good no matter what. Whether it’s 90% bread or 90% peanut butter, the right day on skis will have you feigning for that mushy sandwich in your pocket.

An alternative I have been gravitating towards is an equally as easy option, the ham and cheese sandwich. While these often turn out to be pretty dry (out of my laziness in the production process) they end up satiating my hunger nicely. Two pieces of bread, two pieces of ham, and two slices of cheese are all I put on these and during a hard day of skiing, and it’s hard to imagine anything better. Those are my top three choices for pocket snacks, but I know many people opt for candy as a high ranking snack. In that area I would say Nerds Gummy Clusters and gummy worms are two of the best; though skittles and M&M’s are hard to pass up.

Many ski enthusiasts make their own snacks too, something I hope to do further down the line. This allows for the freedom to bring exactly what you want with the right amount of fuel for your body.  Oats/granola bars, dried fruit, and energy chews are good options too; though I find these to be more expensive or more tedious to bring along in my pocket.

Snacks may seem frivolous, but I think they are one of the most important pieces of gear to bring for any ski day. And of course, post-skiing should also include something great to eat!

Post-Ski tacos in Bend, OR

I lean towards taco’s most often but also love a good pasta meal to ensure I am fueled up for my next day of skiing.
