A new drone was deployed by the Santa Fe Fire Department to assist a lost hiker on Tuesday, February 3rd.
The lost 62-year-old hiker was near the top of Aspen Vista Road close to the summit of Ski Santa Fe when she contacted the Regional Emergency Communication Center for assistance. The Santa Fe Fire Department and Ski Santa Fe Employees were dispatched to assist.
According to KOAT7, the drone was used to locate the woman on the trail. The woman was wearing appropriate gear but did not have skis or snowshoes. She was with her dog when she got lost. She managed to get off trail and because of the deep snow was unable to find her way back to Aspen Vista Road.
The Communication Center received the call for help at 3:30pm and the operation had concluded by 6pm, with the Santa Fe Fire Department, the Santa Fe County Sheriffโs Office, and Ski Santa Fe working together to retrieve the hiker from just outside Ski Santa Fe’s boundaries.
